Shelly L. Miller, Ph.D., is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and faculty in the Environmental Engineering Program at the University of Colorado Boulder, holding an M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from University of California, Berkeley and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Harvey Mudd College. Dr. Miller teaches about and investigates urban air quality and works diligently to understand the impact of air pollution on public health and the environment. She is also an expert on indoor environmental quality including airborne infectious disease transmission and control and air cleaning technologies. Dr. Miller is a member of the Academy of Fellows of the International Society for Indoor Air and Climate (ISIAQ) and is also an Associate Editor for Environmental Science and Technology. Dr. Miller has published over 80 peer reviewed articles on air quality, authored a Chapter on Indoor Air Quality in the Environmental Engineering Handbook, is an active scientist on twitter, and publishes open access as often as possible.
Dr. Nick Clements
Postdoctoral Associate
Nick is a postdoctoral researcher in the Mechanical Engineering Department at University of Colorado Boulder. His research background includes indoor air quality, human-building interactions, the environmental microbiome, ambient air quality, and airborne infection control. Nick received his BS, MS, and PhD from the University of Colorado and prior positions include working as a building scientist at the Well Living Lab. He is currently serving as Vice Chair of the Environmental Health Committee for ASHRAE.

Daniel Knight is a research faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at CU Boulder. His research interests are in the area of outcomes assessment and program evaluation as well as K-12 engineering outreach.

Prof. Shivakant Mishra

Shivakant Mishra is a professor and associate chair in the Department of Computer Science at The University of Colorado, Boulder. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from The University of Arizona and a B. Tech. degree in Computer Science & Engineering from The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. Dr. Mishra co-founded The Colorado Research Center for Democracy and Technology as well as The CU CyberSafety Research Center at CU-Boulder. He is also the CU site co-director of the NSF IUCRC (Industry University Cooperative Research Center) on Pervasive Personalized Intelligence. He enjoys doing research in the areas of Distributed Computing & Networking as well as Social Computing. His current research includes building socio-technical systems to empower environmental justice communities, strengthening democracy through technology, investigating cybersafety issues in social networks, developing system-level support for edge computing, and multi-player online game analytics. He has also done extensive research in the areas of mobile group recommendations, cyberbullying in social networks, misbehavior detection in online video chat systems, secure and intrusion-tolerant sensor networks, delay-tolerant networking, and group communication systems.

Prof. Esther Sullivan

Esther Sullivan is an urban sociologist in the Department of Sociology at the University of Colorado Denver. Her research focuses on poverty, spatial inequality, legal regulation, housing, and the built environment, with a special interest in both forced and voluntary residential mobility. She is a leading expert on manufactured housing and mobile home parks. She is currently a CU Denver Chancellor’s Urban Engaged Scholar, which recognizes “outstanding contributions to the Denver metro region through community-engaged scholarship.”
Marisa Westbrook

Marisa Westbrook, MPH, is a PhD candidate in Health and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver. Her research interests are in basic needs security, community engagement, and health in all policies.
Valentina Serrano
Graduate Student
Valentina Serrano is an international student at the University of Colorado Denver, pursuing a master’s degree in Sociology. Her main fields of interest are immigration and ethnicity, and neighborhood effects including those related to environmental pollution. She is a Spanish speaker from Colombia, and loves spending her time doing art, cooking, and reading.

Abril Gallegos is a first-generation student at the University of Colorado Denver. She is currently in the pre-med track, majoring in biochemistry in hopes of becoming a trauma surgeon helping underrepresented communities. On campus, she is the President of the Latinx Student Alliance, where she provides Latinx students with support needed to continue their education. She volunteers once a week at Denver Health by helping medical staff provide their best care to patients, and enjoys watching anime and paddle boarding.

She enjoys spending time with her husband, two daughters, and her dog.
